Education
Many universities, especially those offering natural sciences, engineering, and biotechnology programmes, also offer an Apprenticeship module in the final years of study. The primary objective is to complement students’ theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, thereby better preparing them for the labour market. These apprenticeships take place in the workspaces of employers that have signed an apprenticeship agreement with the faculties.
Depending on the university and the specific module, apprenticeships usually last between 40 and 120 hours. Full student engagement in practical work is expected, culminating with an evaluation of their performance by a mentor.
The Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute is an ideal employer for apprenticeships, offering a wide range of scientific, technical, and educational opportunities through its Main Laboratory for Water. In addition to laboratory work, students also engage with sectors such as the Monitoring Sector and the Strategic Planning Sector, where, together with their mentors, they assess water quality, contribute to water management initiatives, participate in the Institute’s scientific research, and more.
The Institute has signed agreements for apprenticeships with nine faculties, i.e., departments from the University of Zagreb, the University of Split, and the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek:
