World Water Day celebrated in Metković

World Water Day was celebrated this morning in Metković organized by Croatian Waters, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition and IJosip Juraj Strossmayer" Water Institute.

The event was attended by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, Marija Vučković, State Secretary Anja Bagarić, the Director General of Croatian Waters, Zoran Đuroković, the Director of the “Josip Juraj Strossmayer” Water Institute, Mario Šiljeg, County Prefect Nikola Dobroslavić with associates, and the Mayor of Metković, Dalibor Milan, with associates.
As part of the programme, an information stand of Croatian Waters was opened, which provided citizens with useful information such as data on water levels, current weather forecasts, projects, etc. A picture book by Croatian Waters entitled “MAUREMISI: We raise our voice to save the turtle!” was presented, and the youngest participants took part in educational workshops and water analyses with experts from the “Josip Juraj Strossmayer” Water Institute.

In Croatia, World Water Day is being celebrated for the 32nd consecutive year to emphasise the importance of water for human consumption and to promote the sustainable management of water resources, both globally and in the Republic of Croatia. This year, World Water Day carries the message “Save our glaciers” and emphasises the importance of preserving glaciers, which are crucial for the global water cycle and maintaining the stability of ecosystems.
