About Us

Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute carries out key activities in the fields of water quality monitoring, the development of scientific, research and analytical documents for water management, and international cooperation in water resource management.

Staffing

The Institute currently employs 51 staff members, including:

  • 10 holders of a doctoral degree
  • 5 holders of a master’s degree
  • 2 university specialists
  • as well as engineers in natural, technical, and biotechnical sciences, along with lawyers, economists, and technicians.

Main Activities

The Institute’s activities are defined in Article 3 of Regulation on the Establishment of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute

  1. Water Quality Monitoring:
    • Surface water and groundwater: Implementation of monitoring at the Main Water Laboratory with the support of external contractors.
    • Monitoring expansion: Over the past year, the Institute has taken on additional responsibilities and plans to assume sampling and analysis of indicators from additional monitoring stations in the next three years.
  2. Training of Employees of Public Supplier of Water Supply Services: The Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute is responsible for the development and implementation of a continuous professional training curriculum for employees of public suppliers of water supply services.
  3. Implementation of Scientific Research in the Field of Water Management

  5. International Cooperation and Scientific Work

Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute is a key institution for monitoring water resources in the Republic of Croatia, continuously evolving through domestic and international projects and collaborations.
