The Institute expands the network of monitoring stations in Hrvatsko Zagorje

Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute contributes to the increasingly intensive activities of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the green transition in the area of illegal waste disposal and dumping.
Since April, new measuring stations have been set up in the Poznanovac area in Hrvatsko Zagorje to determine whether there are any negative effects on surface water conditions. Specifically, two new stations were added to the existing network: one on the Ježerščak stream upstream, just before the illegal landfill, and the other downstream, where the Ježerščak stream flows into the Krapina River.
The list of parameters to be monitored at these new stations includes basic physico-chemical indicators, heavy metals and indicators of priority and priority hazardous substances as defined in the Regulation on water quality standards.
The broad spectrum of the Institute’s activities was also announced by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, Marija Vučković, on February 28 in the program “Poligraf – Political Graph”
If the monitoring results from these new stations indicate potential contamination related to activities currently being investigated by the competent authorities, monitoring will be further intensified.
In March, the Institute was also active in Lika-Senj County, particularly in Gospić. A new measuring station was set up at the Most – Ostrvica site. The analysis of the samples taken at this site showed that the measured parameters did not indicate any exceedance of the maximum permissible concentrations and, based on the analyses carried out, it is not possible to determine whether illegal waste disposal has affected the quality of the surface water at this station.
