The Institute Featured on Croatian Radio and Croatian Television
The Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute was featured on 10 June 2026 in the Croatian Radio programme Climate Challenge and the Croatian Television programme Good Morning, Croatia. Representing the Institute, Dr Igor Stanković presented the Institute’s scope of work, ongoing projects, and development activities.
During the interviews, it was emphasized that the establishment of the Institute provided the Republic of Croatia with a central professional and scientific institution dedicated to water monitoring and supporting the development of water policy. Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that the Government of the Republic of Croatia recognized, in a timely manner, the need for such an institution, which today integrates monitoring activities, laboratory research, expert analyses, and modern technologies.
The Institute’s activities in the monitoring of surface waters, groundwater, transitional waters, and coastal waters were presented, alongside the work of the Central Water Laboratory and the availability of water-related data to the public through the Institute’s website. Special attention was given to the introduction of new technologies in water monitoring, including satellite observations and the development of systems for more efficient data collection and processing.
The programmes also highlighted some of the Institute’s most important development projects. Particular attention was given to the Institute’s cooperation with the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service on the KlimProPos project, which contributes to strengthening climate change monitoring systems and supporting the adaptation of the water utility sector to climate-related impacts. The Institute’s activities in the field of microplastics monitoring in water intended for human consumption were also presented.
The Institute’s international activities were likewise showcased, including its participation in European projects and cross-border cooperation initiatives, as well as training programmes for employees of public water service providers and student internship schemes through which the Institute contributes to the development of future professionals in the water sector.
The appearances on Croatian Radio and Croatian Television provided an opportunity to introduce the wider public to the role of the Institute in safeguarding Croatia’s water resources and to present the activities through which it contributes to sustainable water management and adaptation to emerging environmental and climate challenges.
