The Institute maintains the continuity of the accreditation of its laboratory methods

The Main Water Laboratory of the Josip Juraj Strossmayer Water Institute is proud to hold an accreditation certificate issued in accordance with international standards, confirming the high level of expertise, technical competence and reliability of our tests. Accreditation is not only a formal recognition, but also a guarantee that all analyses are carried out under strict quality control and in accordance with the applicable regulations, in accordance with the requirements of the standard HRN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017: General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
The Main Water Laboratory uses analytical methods performed in accordance with international standards recognised in the Republic of Croatia as Croatian standards (HRN), as well as its own methods developed in the Main Water Laboratory, and the accreditation certificate confirms the suitability and validity of the accredited methods.
The Institute’s professional team operates laboratories at two locations – in Hrušćica near Zagreb and in Šibenik. In these laboratories, a wide range of water testing is performed, from basic physico-chemical analyses to more complex analyses that include automated extraction procedures for the concentration of samples and the performance of analyses of a wide range of different organic and inorganic substances using various analytical techniques that enable reliable analysis and detection of pollutants even at low concentrations. In addition to the chemical analyses of water and sediments, biological indicator tests are also carried out, which are crucial for assessing the ecological status of aquatic ecosystems. The number of accredited indicators is continuously increasing – by 2023 there were 117, and this number has now reached 458 accredited indicators.
The analytical methods used have been selected to ensure reliable results, while all processes in the laboratory are continuously improved according to the latest scientific knowledge and legal requirements. By combining expertise, proven analytical methods and reliable laboratory equipment, the Institute’s staff ensure accurate and credible results of water analyses, which are crucial for responsible decisions in water management and the protection of water resources.
