In September 2026, the Josip Juraj Strossmayer Institute for Water continued its expanded monitoring of target parameters at five surface water locations in Lika-Senj County: Lika River, Bilaj; Lika River, Ostrvica Bridge; Lika River, Budak; Brlog Reservoir, Gusić Polje; and Novčica River upstream of its confluence with the Lika River.

Sampling was conducted on 14 September 2026 at all the above-mentioned locations.

The collected samples were analysed for PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid and its derivatives), antimony, arsenic, cadmium, copper, lead, zinc, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC).

Within the surface water monitoring programme, an environmental quality standard has been established for PFOS and its derivatives among PFAS compounds; therefore, PFOS was included in this testing.

At all sampled locations, PFOS concentrations were below the quantification limit of the analytical method applied (< 0.00065 µg/L).

For the analysed parameters for which the Regulation on Water Quality Standards establishes applicable surface water quality standards, the results obtained do not indicate any exceedance of the prescribed values.
